Holidays In Northridge
November 30, 2017
Northridge, one of the prime locations in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, is home to such gems as California State University Northridge, The Northridge Fashion Center, The Alder Apartment Building, and The Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Could it also be the site of holiday magic for you and yours? Well, seeing as it’s right in the LA area, there are bound to be a few things around the area that catch your fancy, and if the offerings in Northridge don’t cut it, it’s no big hassle to head over to Glendale, down to Beverly Hills, or strut across to DTLA to find some Christmas excitement that fits your tastes a bit better. If you’re on the hunt for holiday activities the whole family will love, here are few you should keep on your radar.
Fun At The Northridge Fashion Center
Starting at the aforementioned Northridge Fashion Center, the shopping complex will be holding a series of holiday-themed activities through the latter part of December. First up on the list are Photos With Santa, available now through December 24th:
“Don’t miss the easiest way to visit Santa—just reserve your time and skip the line! Save $5 on photos when you book between Monday and Wednesday (through December 9th).”
Or, you might instead want to have Santa take a photo with your pooch? Pet Photos With Santa are also available through December 11th:
“Create a ‘fur-rever’ memory with your 4 legged family members when you take your dog or cat to get their photo with Santa! Imagine the fun reactions you’ll get sharing this adorable photo with your family, friends and Facebook followers.”
Santa will be in attendance for partytime when you head over for Holiday PJ Night With Santa through December 8th:
“Who said that pajamas were only for bedtime? Dress up the whole family in their favorite festive PJs and take an unforgettable photo with Santa. Whether it’s silly or sweet, it will be the perfect picture to share with all your family and friends.”
And the big guy will also make an appearance for Ugly Sweater Night With Santa, when you and yours head on down in your most embarrassing Christmas threads for a night of fun on December 1st:
“Break out your ugliest holiday sweater (you know the one!) and take a fun photo with Santa. Whether its adorned with pom pom snowmen or glitter gingerbread man, the sillier the sweater the better! Bring your family and friends for a night full of laughter!”
Regardless, the Northridge Fashion Center is getting a lot of use out of Old Saint Nick, and if you’ve got a mind for family fun, that’s a good thing. There will be plenty of chances for you to bond with the big guy and delight your kids when you head over this way for the holidays.
The Swells Christmas Special
The holiday season isn’t complete without great music, right? The first annual Swells Christmas Special on December 1st is going to be great chance to enjoy your fair share of food, dancing, and awesome performances from artists like Espresso, Gold Vine, Good Boy, Spencer Cohen, and others. It’s all going down at White Oak Music & Arts in Van Nuys, just a few blocks south of Northridge’s southern border.
WOMA, if you weren’t already aware, is an “all-ages education institution specializing in affordable music & performing arts instruction in the San Fernando Valley community.” They’re giving young performers a chance to express themselves and display their talents in front of a crowd, so by heading down to this particular holiday activity you’ll be simultaneously aiding the kids in honing their skills.
Mommy & Me Winter Tea
The name alone signifies this event’s family appeal. Mommy & Me Winter Tea is hosted by the Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks, and will take place on December 16th at 9:30AM and again at 1:00PM:
“Join us for a traditional high tea, including kid-friendy bites, activities, entertainment, photobooth, and a special gift in a festive Winter Wonderland setting!”
The 9:30AM session also includes a special “princess meet & greet” courtesy of Lythgoe Family Panto (Panto is essentially Musical theatre which incorporates audience participation and pop songs, if you didn’t know). There will also be a raffle of gifts from stores such as Athleta, Kinsley, Nektar Juice Bar, and Salon Dioro. The best part is that the $5 ticket price is going to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, so you’ll be having a great time and supporting charity simultaneously.
Taking a look at some of the photos from the event’s Facebook Page, those “kid-friendly bites” look absolutely delectable. Make sure to carve out some time to take the family to this one.
Awesome Holiday Card Making Workshop
What could be more precious than handcrafting holiday cards? Head east to Sun Valley on December 1st at 2:00PM and you can get in on the DIY action at the Sun Valley branch of the LA Public Library. “No experience necessary,” they say. Just bring the family and some friends and join in on crafting your own special Christmas cards to include with your gifts or to send out to those you care about.
If you really love crafts (and pastries), you can return to the library on December 14th for the Cookie Decorating Party, where the library will indulge the kids in designing cookie decorations to their heart’s content to kick off the Winter Reading Challenge. Then come back on December 18th at 1:00PM and get in on the Wreath Making activity too.
Speaking of the Winter Reading Challenge, why not get the kids and the rest of the family involved? Sometimes, holiday fun is all about enriching your mind with new stories, characters, and lessons from great works of literature:
“Join the Winter Reading Challenge at the Los Angeles Public Library! Log your progress and earn points for reading, attending a library event, or writing a book review. It’s fun and free. Plus, when you reach the summit of the Winter Reading Challenge mountain, you’ll earn a chance to win a family membership to Discovery Cube and more!”
