Fun Things To Do In Reseda, CA

    November 15, 2017

San Fernando Valley - Alder Apartments Northridge

Everyone knows a little bit about Reseda, even if it’s just hearing the name mentioned in the Tom Petty classic “Free Fallin’.” Let’s assume that your knowledge of the area around this quiet corner of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. You’ve not heard of the It’s beginnings as an agricultural center, the transformation into a post-war suburb, or recent developments that have brought fine new communities like the Alder Apartments in Reseda CA to prominence. What’s one of the first things you would ask? What is there to do for fun, of course. Thankfully, Reseda and nearby Northridge provide, granting residents with plenty of things to do when it’s time to have a good time.

    So What’s Around Here?

Reseda, Northridge, and the rest of the San Fernando Valley provide plenty to see and plenty to do, all within the area and in spite of some of the preconceived notions about the regions:

“The San Fernando Valley is easily one of the most misunderstood regions of Los Angeles. Long mocked for its suburban strip malls, vapid "Valley Girl" accents and affordable tract housing, the Valley gets a bad rap as L.A.'s tragically un-hip suburban wasteland.”

The preconceptions, of course, are a fiction. As LA Weekly has expertly noted:

“But the stereotypes are simply not true, and we proved it in this year's Best of L.A. issue, which features dozens of hidden gems all over the San Fernando Valley and beyond, even into the far reaches of the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.”

For instance, you can visit the Museum Of The San Fernando Valley on Nordhoff Street. The museum is dedicated to showing off the astounding history of this amazing place:

“As an educational and cultural institution, we are here to acquire, display, and preserve the artifacts, documents and records of the San Fernando Valley. With the help of residents, businesses, organizations and societies, we will build The Museum collections of historical items, the fine arts and the folk arts for the public to enjoy and for scholars to research.”

The museum has a wealth of exhibits yearly, which you can view here. For a idea of what’s in store, take a look at the titles of some of these past exhibits: Hot Art/Cool Room, A Woman’s Soul, Mural Of Michael Jackson -- the list goes on. You’ll likely have fun exploring the rich history of the San Fernando Valley.

If history doesn’t interest you, though, you might feel more inclined to go to the “Smoke Shoppe.” Captain Ed’s is an establishment with a storied history, and has been serving the community since the late 1960s:

“Captain Ed’s Shoppe has served generations of smokers with the finest glass pipes and other accessories since 1967. With locations in Reseda and Van Nuys, this joint is so beloved that you would be hard-pressed to find anyone in the 818 area code with a penchant for the green stuff who wasn’t already a fan.”

If you’re looking for pipes, vaporizers, or just want to take a look, then you’ll have a blast here, taking a gander at the beautiful handcrafted items on display and the marvelous handcrafted art.

For those who are fans of the inimitably handcrafted, Far West Plywood provides the finest of hardwoods for that special project you’ve been trying to nail down:

“We proudly stock the highest grade material at competitive prices. In addition to the products listed, we carry a complete line of hardwood and softwood moldings, as well as the largest selection of pre and unfinished paneling in the area.”

This place is the pinnacle of professionalism, frequented by those who are masters of their craft. Family owned and operated since the 1960s, the quality here has little comparison.

For a good time that’s completely out of the ordinary, you could head down in the direction of the Van Nuys Airport. Not to take a flight, though, this trip will be toward the Sky Zone. This “Indoor Trampoline Park” is home to many fun attractions, all of which push the envelope when it comes to having an excellent excursion:

“Sky Zone is the world’s first indoor trampoline park. We’re the inventors of “fun fitness” and the makers of trampolines as far as the eye can see. We give you one of the greatest workouts ever combined with awesome, healthy fun.”

Those attractions take the form of various aerial acrobatics: Freestyle Jumping, Ultimate Dodgeball, Foam Zone, Skyslam, and more. Ultimate Dodgeball is a particular favorite, as it’s one of Sky Zone’s originals:

“Sky Zone is the original home of trampoline dodgeball and exclusive host of the annual Ultimate Dodgeball Championships. It gets real on our walled courts, where players and balls are free to fly in unprecedented ways. Bring some friends and show 'em what you've got.”

You’ll need tickets to reserve a time and spot at one of the events, and you’ll also need to sign a waiver to participate, but you’ll be glad you did. This is one of the funnest spots in the area, and it’s not just the open jumping attractions that are a draw. The Sky Zone hosts parties, available by reservation, and also hosts the special “Club Glow” events, which turn the entire area into a evening club atmosphere:

“Meet your friends at Sky Zone Van Nuys for Club GLOW on Friday & Saturday Nights! Jump and GLOW for only $30 Per Person (SkySocks sold separately) Wear your own custom GLOW shirt for entry into our “Coolest GLOW shirt” contest or buy a Sky Zone GLOW shirt (prices starting as low as $5) Dance & Party at Club GLOW for the ultimate black light experience with dancing laser lights, crazy fog, and a Live DJ!”
